Power of Attorney

1. Power of Attorney drawn at the Honorary Consulate

Power of Attorney services are provided Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 9:30am and 1:30pm by appointment only 

Requirements:

  • The principal must be present with proper identification such as a Lebanese I.D. Card or an Extract of Civil Status (Ikhraj Kaid) or valid Lebanese passport.
  • Full address and telephone No. of the principal in the U.S.A.
  • Full name of the representative in Lebanon, his/her mother’s name, his/her date of birth, his/her place & registration number.
  • For Real Estate matters: the original deed of property or a registry certificate (ifada 3ikariya) must be presented.
  • For cars: The make, year, plate number and serial number of the engine and the body.
  • For Bank accounts: The bank’s address and account number.
  • For Marriages and Divorces: Full names and religious affiliation and the relevant competent authorities.

Fees: 

  • General Power of Attorney: $50.00 money order per principal payable to the Honorary Consulate of Lebanon in San Francisco.
  • Special Power of Attorney: $25.00 money order per principal payable to the Honorary Consulate of Lebanon in San Francisco.
  • In addition: If the Power of Attorney includes a dollar amount, the fee is calculated as $1.00 per $1000.00 with a Maximum of $1250.00.

Notes:

Powers of Attorney affecting real estate are only valid for a five year-period.

AN ORIGINAL DEED OF PROPERTY OR ORIGINAL RECENT “IFADA 3AKARIYA” IS REQUIRED TO DRAW OR LEGALIZE A POWER OF ATTORNEY AFFECTING REAL ESTATE.

2. Power of Attorney drawn by a Notary Public (if unable to come to the Consulate)

In addition to the requirements listed above (regarding real estate, cars, bank accounts, marriages and divorces), all “Power of Attorneys” should include the following:

Full names of applicant and recipient (First and Last name), father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, registry place and number in Lebanon.

Requirements:

  • The Notary Public must include the following statement on the Power of Attorney: “The Principal (Full name) appeared in front of me and was identified by the witnesses (Full name) and (Full name) whose signatures appear on the foregoing instrument and who enjoy the legal capacity to bare witness and in my presence the Principal signed the forgoing instrument on the (Date mm/ dd /yy) with his/her full consent to its content.”
  • The Notary Public must affix his/her seal on the original document next to the Principal’s signature.
  • Furthermore, the Power of Attorney must be signed by two witnesses.
  • Notarized photocopies of the Principals and witnesses’ identification documents must accompany the Power of Attorney.
  • The witnesses should not be related to the principal.
  • Kindly, include a notarized copy of a recent ID of both applicant and recipient. Lebanese applicants must include a recent original or notarized Lebanese photo I.D. ( i.e. individual Ikhraj Kaid, valid passport or the plastic I.D.). Family Ikhraj Kaid is not an acceptable document. Non-Lebanese applicants must include their passports.
  • If the power of attorney is more than one page, each page must be signed by the principal and sealed by the notary public.
  • The Power of Attorney must then be authenticated by the Department of State.
  • The Power of Attorney must be sent to the Honorary Consulate for legalization with a self-addressed stamped envelope.
  • Any Power of Attorney received by mail without the above mentioned information, will be returned to the sender.

  • Special Power of Attorney: $ 25.00 money order per principal payable to the Honorary Consulate of Lebanon in San Francisco.
  • In addition: If the Power of Attorney includes a dollar amount, the fee is calculated as $1.00 per $1000.00 with a Maximum of $1250.00.

Note: Applicants over 65 years of age are kindly requested to submit, along with the required documents, a certificate of good mental health issued by their physician.
